MAYFIELD, Ky. (AP) -- A volunteer coach for an elementary school basketball team has been charged with sexually abusing teenage girls.
The Paducah Sun reports that 46-year-old Donald Richard of Fancy Farm was arrested Monday and charged with multiple counts of sodomy, sexual abuse and using a minor in a sexual performance. The charges involve four girls.
Richard pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday and Graves District Judge Deborah Crooks ordered that he be assigned a public defender.
Richard has served as a volunteer assistant basketball coach for Fancy Farm Elementary School for the last two years.
Graves County School District spokesman says Paul Schaumburg says a background check of Richard came back approved. According to court records, he has no prior criminal record.
