A former high school assistant basketball coach pleaded guilty Monday to charges of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student, the District Attorney's Office said today.

Jonathan James Marsh, of Tustin, will be sentenced Jan. 12. He pleaded guilty to felony counts of sex acts with a minor, and to misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and sale of an alcoholic beverage to a minor, said Farrah Emami, spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office.

Marsh was a student at Cal State Fullerton and was 19 when he was charged with sex with a minor in his apartment Sept. 1, according to authorities.

Prosecutors said March met the victim while she was a student at Beckman High School in Irvine. The student told a school police officer that she had been assaulted.

Marsh, who had worked as an assistant basketball coach at the school, was not employed by the Tustin Unified School District at the time, according to district spokesman Mark Eliot. Beckman High School is in Irvine, at 3588 Bryan Ave., and is part of the Tustin Unified School District.

Marsh faces a maximum sentence of three years and eight months in state prison at sentencing.
