Baldwin PTA official has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after she and a 13-year-old boy were caught in the backseat of a vehicle parked behind an elementary school, Nassau police said.

Joan Tuckruskye, 44, of 1111 Steele Blvd., was in the backseat of a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder in a parking lot behind Meadow Elementary on Northern Boulevard with the boy Friday night, said Det. Lt. Kevin Smith.

Tuckruskye and the boy, who police did not identify, were naked from the waist down, Smith said.Tuckruskye, a vice-president in charge of fundraising of the Baldwin Middle School parent-teacher association, was released without bail at her arraignment Saturday. She could not be reached last night.

First Precinct officers found the two after they approached the parked, running Pathfinder at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.

When officers asked for identification, the boy told them he was 18. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for an exam and it was determined he is 13, Smith said.

Tuckruskye told police the two were kissing, Smith said.

"Based on the investigation and the uncooperative nature of both the victim and the defendant, we were unable to establish anything more than the fact she was endangering the welfare of child," Smith said. "The obvious question is whether or not a sexual act took place."

The investigation is ongoing, Smith said.

When told, the PTA's recording secretary, Rita Barrow, said, "You just knocked me into my seat. She appears to be very conscientious with school activities."

Tuckruskye has been active with PTAs since the oldest of her three children, now 18 and a college freshman, was in elementary school, Barrow said.

The district superintendent could not be reached last night.
